For years, our family received nursing services through a home healthcare agency under Georgia’s NOW/COMP waiver program. Although we appreciated the care provided, we experienced challenges with staffing consistency and scheduling. We didn’t realize there might be another option for our loved one’s nursing services.

We had never been informed that independently enrolled nurses could provide services through Georgia’s NOW/COMP waiver program.

After receiving guidance, we learned about participant direction, the differences between agency nursing and independent nursing providers, and the steps involved in exploring a transition.

We received assistance understanding what questions to ask our support coordinator, how to navigate the process, and what was needed to pursue a change in nursing providers while keeping our loved one’s needs and preferences at the center of every decision.

The greatest benefit was having someone knowledgeable who understood the Georgia Medicaid waiver system and could explain our options clearly.

We now feel more informed, confident, and empowered to make decisions about our loved one’s nursing care. We only wish we had known these options existed sooner.

NOW/COMP Family Member | Georgia

As a licensed practical nurse providing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I wanted to explore becoming an independently enrolled Medicaid nursing provider under Georgia’s NOW/COMP waiver program.

I knew how to provide nursing care, but I didn’t understand the business and administrative responsibilities involved in becoming an independent provider.

I needed assistance navigating Georgia Medicaid enrollment, understanding service authorizations, learning documentation and billing requirements, and identifying the RN oversight needed to support my independent nursing services.

Through professional guidance and mentoring, I gained a better understanding of the enrollment process, the responsibilities of an independent LPN provider, and the importance of maintaining appropriate clinical documentation and nursing oversight.

I also received guidance on accessing qualified RN oversight resources and understanding how to manage the administrative side of independent nursing practice.

Having someone experienced to answer questions and explain the process helped me feel more confident about pursuing independent provider enrollment.

What made the difference was having access to someone who understood both nursing practice and Georgia Medicaid’s NOW/COMP waiver requirements.

I learned that becoming an independent provider doesn’t mean having to navigate every challenge alone.
